Khatwa

Khatwa aims to support small cultural industries within marginalized and poor communities in Arab countries. The program offers grants ranging from 1,000 to 3,000 euros for the purchase of tools, equipment and machines necessary to work independently and for profit in artistic fields such as film, music, instrument making, traditional crafts, visual arts and performing arts.

Khatwa program responds to the economic challenges experienced by artists and professionals in crafts and artistic professions who live in marginalized or poor communities in Arab countries, and who have lost a large part of their income as a result of the economic crisis during the spread of the Covid-19 virus. Khatwa program began experimentally in 2020 with graduates of Action for Hope programs and 15 applicants from among the graduates received small grants for their cultural businesses.  In 2021, Khatwa was launched to support artists and art workers of all ages and in all artistic fields, who lack the financial means to purchase the technical tools necessary to practice their work in a manner that brings them an appropriate income.
