في العام الماضي قدمت فرقة العمل للأمل المسرحية عرضها الأول في بيروت “أنجي ويالنجي”، من إخراج كريستيل خضر. هذا العام تعود الفرقة، أيضاً مع كريستيل خضر، بعرضها الجديد “الفيل يا ملك الزمان” للكاتب السوري الشهير سعدالله ونوس.
في المسرحية، يشكو سكان القرية للملك من ظلم الفيل الذي قضى على محاصيلهم وهدد حياتهم، فهل ينقذهم الملك، أم أن هناك مساراً أخر؟ عملت كريستيل خضر مع الفرقة لإعادة تمثل هذا النص المسرحي الذي يعتبر من كلاسيكيات المسرح العربي، والتعامل معه بتقدير وحرية في نفس الوقت.
تكونت الفرقة بعد قافلة للإغاثة الثقافية قامت بها العمل للأمل عام 2013 في مخيم المرج للاجئين السوريين في البقاع، والذي لم يعد موجوداً، ولكن أعضاء الفرقة داوموا على العمل سوياً، كما اتسعت الفرقة لتضم شباباً وفتيات موهوبين من بين تجمعات اللاجئين السوريين في البقاع، معظمهم طلاب جامعيون أو طلاب مدارس ثانوية. تسعى العمل للأمل إلى إتاحة الفرصة أمام هؤلاء الشباب الموهوبين لصقل مهاراتهم وتقديم أعمالهم الفنية أمام جمهور واسع، وإلى دعم انخراطهم في المشهد الثقافي والفني في لبنان.

The Elephant, Your Majesty!

Last year this group presented its first performance in Beirut of the play “Angie & Yallanji”, directed by Chrystèle Khodr. This year marks the return of the group to Beirut, also with Chrystèle Khodr, with their new production: “The Elephant, King of Times!” by Syria’s foremost playwright, Saadallah Wannous.
In the play, the villagers complain to the king that a mighty elephant is attacking them and threatening their livelihood. Would the king save them, or fate has another course for them? Chrystèle Khodr worked with the group to interpret this classic play and reproduce it in a liberal style that is also respectful of the original text.
The Action for Hope Theater Group was formed after a cultural relief convoy to Al Marj Camp in 2013. The camp no longer exists, but the members of the group are still working together, and have expanded to include other talented young people from Syrian refugee communities in Beqaa, most of whom are university and secondary school students. Action for Hope aims at giving them the opportunity to develop their talents and present their work to a wide audience, and to enable them to engage with the cultural and artistic scene in Lebanon.
